Jahzyiah Samuels-Williams - Thomas University Night Hawks
Jahzyiah is a 5-foot 6-inch freshman from Pembroke, Bermuda who plays defence for Thomas University in Thomasville, Georgia. She is also a member of the Bermuda National Team.
We were very proud to sign Jahzyiah on as a RecruitMeUSA client from the Liverpool Foundation College in the beginning of 2018.
Thomas University competes in the NAIA and The Sun Conference. In the Women’s Soccer 2018 campaign and Jahzyiah’s first year playing for the university, she played in eleven games out of the sixteen total and made two starts as a freshman. She ended the season with 5-goals to her name - making her mark against Point University in a 4-2 win, Ave Maria in a 6-0 win and Florida Memorial in a 4-0 win. Well done Jahzyiah!
We were able to ask Jahzyiah a few questions about her experience playing at an American University and living in a different country so far. Here is what she had to say:
How has your experience been so far in Georgia?
It has been great, it is a different experience and journey that I am more than happy that I am on.
What do you think about the college academic and athletic facilities?
College academics is going great. There are many degrees that they offer. The athletic facilities are good. They do many sports and have great facilities for every single one of them.
How different has training or playing style been compared to the UK?
It is much different and was challenging in the beginning but it is worth all the energy and time you put into it because it is taking you to a whole new level and developing your skills.
Can you describe a current day in the life of Jahzyiah Samuels?
My current day is very busy. It is all about college and soccer. Most of my days revolve around those 2 and I couldn’t be happier about it.
How are you managing the balance of academic and athletic work?
It took some time to adjust to but once you get use to it, it isn’t that hard. Just manage your time wisely and responsibly.
What do you think about the level of competition in the teams you face?
There is people from all around the world who play in the NAIA there are so many different talents on a team. The competition level is at a high. You never know what you are going to face when playing a team.
Has anything surprised you about your experience so far?
How much dedication it takes. How much I have developed already in a short amount of time.
Any tips to individuals considering pursuing a sports scholarship?
I recommend it. It takes a lot of work and you have to be willing to be fully dedicated and ready to push yourself to your limits as it take a lot of hard work. If you are looking to develop your play this is one of the best ways to do so.
